Belden 9842 RS-485 Computer Cable, 24 AWG
If you need dependable data transmission for your computer networking application, the Belden 9842 series cable is a perfect choice.
The 9842 cable is a low capacitance computer cable designed for use with EIA RS-485 installations. It has two 24 AWG pairs stranded (7x32) tinned copper conductors. The nominal characteristic impedance is 120 Ohm.
The Belden 9842 cable features the signature Beldfoil® patented shield which offers lightweight, flexible, and strong shielding. It also uses polyethylene insulation (PE) for low dielectric loss and high dielectric strength.
The twisted pair construction helps to minimise external interference with data transmission, as the conductors carry signals in opposite directions to negate crosstalk.
Features and Benefits:
Tinned copper conductors ensure optimal conductivity and resistance to corrosion
Overall Beldfoil® (100% coverage) + tinned copper braid shield (90% coverage)
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) outer jacket offers high durability
24 AWG stranded tinned copper drain wire
Low capacitance provides reliable long-distance transmission
Applications:
RS-485
DMX-512
What is RS-485?
This term refers to an industry standard for defining the electrical characteristics of serial lines in serial communication systems (methods of sending data). This standard is useful for industrial control systems as it ensures signal transmission over long distances and electrically noisy environments, in installations where many devices may need to be interconnected.
What are the benefits of shielded cabling?
Cables which are screened, or shielded, are better protected again electromagnetic interference (EMI) than unshielded versions. EMI refers to electrical noise which is conducted or radiated, and it can negatively affect the functioning of devices and equipment. Screening reduces crosstalk between cables (signal leakage), ensuring higher signal integrity.
