RS PRO RC Capacitor

RS PRO presents this 3-way chassis mount chassis package as part of its electronic components range. Two flexible wire ended single and three phase contact arc suppressors designed specifically to reduce contact arc when switching reactive loads.
These RC suppressors are suitable for industrial applications employing high power control circuitry. May be connected across a switch to improve contact life or in a parallel delta configuration to protect thyristors and solid state relays.

Features and Benefits:

• 500 Vac max operating voltage
• 50-60 Hz frequency
• 100 MΩ min. (500 Vdc) insulation resistance
• 1500 V max peak to peak
• 100 msec max pulse width
• 720 Hz max repetitive frequency
• 0.2 max Pulse width (sec)  freq. (Hz)
• 20% capacitance tolerance
• 30% / 6 W resistance tolerance/power
• -40 to +70°C operating temperature
• Improves dV/dt

How do capacitors store energy?

Capacitors store energy when they are connected to a voltage source in a circuit, for example when connected to a battery or electrical source. The capacitor will charge up to the same voltage as the voltage it is connected to, it does this when a current flows.

How do capacitors work?

Capacitors contain two metal plates, and a dielectric material in between those two plates. An electric field is formed when voltage is applied over the plates. One plate collects negative charge the other positive. The effect of a capacitor is called capacitance.

Warning

These devices are designed for connecting directly across a mains supply but should NOT be used in positions where failure of the capacitor would expose anyone to electric shock.
